Description:
Building on earlier activities,
UNCTAD is preparing a new regional project in partnership with SIECA,
the Central American Commission for Environment and Development,
UNDP and national governments.
It is envisaged that
a project on Trade and Environment will be implemented in partnership
between SIECA, the Central America Commission for Environment and
Development (CCAD), UNDP (in particular its CAPACITY 21 programme),
national governments and UNCTAD. The proposed project will build
on the results of projects already completed in the region.
Activities:
Activities would likely
focus on an examination of:
- The impact of environmental
factors on Central America's integration into the world economy
- Possibilities to promote
the production and export of environmentally preferable products
- Trade implications
of the ISO 14001 standard for Central America
- Supporting effective
participation of Central American countries in international deliberations
and negotiations on trade and environment.
