4th meeting of the UNCTAD/ FAO/ IFOAM International Task Force on Harmonisation and Equivalence in Organic Agriculture

Executive Summary

This interim meeting aimed at obtaining feedback on the work done since the third meeting. The ITF discussed and provided feedback for changes to a compiled version of two previous draft papers, a long-term strategy and short-term actions paper. The ITF provided feedback on the preliminary results of an analysis of conformity assessment requirements and their relevance to organic certification and advanced with the development of a Glossary of Terms. The ITF also approved the Terms of Reference for a) a feasibility study for a database for organic norms, b) a research design and methodology for a consumer study, c) an analysis of and blueprint for collaborations between conformity assessment bodies, d) an analysis of experiences with equivalency, recognition and other trade enhancing mechanisms and e) an analysis of the common regulatory objectives (CRO’s) underlying current organic regulations.
