Source:UNCTAD based on data from Johnson Matthey's Platinum Report Palladium supply in the past showed a 60 per cent supply from the Russian federation. In 2002, the main producing company (Norilsk Nickel) honored only its contracts and did not sell on the spot market. According to Johnsons Matthey analysis, Norilsk has to pay its debts to the Russian Governement with a large volume of palladium. The Russian state treasury supports Norilsk and did not sale on the spot market from its inventories. At last, Norilsk "would acquire a majority stake in Stillwater Mining" what required a deposit of palladium in a European Bank "as part payment of the share purchase".
