Olive oil sector shows a processing capacity much higher than that of production. As there is a great number of processing companies, it is very difficult to enter the market. Likewise, large international companies prefer the acquisition of existing processing, bottling and refining units to the establishment of new ones.

Significant companies in this sector are: Ferruzzi with brands Salgado and Koipe, Unilever with Lince, La Masia, Lindoliva and Puget, Eridiana-Beghin Say with Lesieur and Bunge with Ville. Even distribution chains own their own brands: Carrefour, Jumbo or Hipercor.

The market is also shared with specific olive oil sector companies, as it is the case of Aceites Españoles with the brands Carbonell and Elosúa or cooperative Uteco-Jaen which has its own brand.

Moreover, out of large units, most cooperatives and small processing companies also sell a proportion of their production directly to the consumers.
