About the ICT work programme

Our assignment

The Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) programme of UNCTAD is responsible for delivering the organization's mandate in this field. The mandate is established by the member States at the UNCTAD ministerial Conference, which is held once every four years, and is implemented by the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board (TDB).  The most recent Conference was held in Accra, in April 2008.

The programme conducts analytical work aimed at policy makers and practitioners in the field of e-commerce, Internet and ICTs.

The programme's activities support the TDB and its Commissions, and related Expert Meetings.

It also issues a number of publications and organizes seminars and workshops to raise awareness and promote the exchange of experience among ICT practitioners and policy makers in developing countries.

Where do we belong in the UNCTAD secretariat structure?

The UNCTAD secretariat has five substantive divisions, of which one is the Division on Technology and Logistics (DTL). The Science, Technology and ICT Branch is one of three Branches of the DTL Division and the ICT work programme is one of its components.

Our expertise

The programme staff consists of a dozen dedicated professionals with wide experience in trade, legal and financial issues in both the private and public sector domain. Working as a team, the programme has shown its capacity in dealing with specific as well as cross−sector issues.
