Lucas ASSUNCAO
Head of UNCTAD’s Trade, Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development
Branch, where he is responsible for coordinating and implementing activities
related to
trade, investment and development aspects of biodiversity, climate change, biofuels
including investment opportunities under the Kyoto Protocol. Mr. Assunção
has over twenty years of work experience on issues related to environment and
development.
He worked previously as Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General
of the 1992 Earth Summit, and Economist at the Climate Change secretariat. He
initiated his education at the University of California, Berkeley and holds an
M.Sc. in Economics from the Pontificia Universidade Catolica of Rio de Janeiro,
later pursuing studies at the Harvard Institute for International Development.

Brigitte LG BAPTISTE
Brigitte is a Biologist from the “Pontificia Universidad Javeriana",
Bogotá D.C.,
Colombia. As part of her studies, she did a PhD in Environmental Science with
emphasis on Ecological Economics and Natural Resource Management at the Universidad
Autónoma de Barcelona (Bellaterra, Spain).
At the moment, Dr Baptiste
is the CEO of the Institute of Biological resources research Alexander von Humboldt
which has as aspecial research line the use
and valuation of biodiversity.
Her professional background includes teaching at the
Territory and Ecology Department of the Universidad Javeriana ,and she worked
several years ago as a consultant
of WWF Colombia.

Maria Teresa BECERRA
María Teresa Becerra, she is a biologist with a master degree in Ecology
from
the National University (Colombia) and a specialization in
biodiversity management from the University of Alicante (Spain). Currently
she works in the General Secretariat of the Andean Community as Head of the
Environmental Department. She has more than 10 years of experience working
in applied research, environmental policy and sustainable use topics.
Previously, Ms Becerra worked with the United Nations Conference on Trade
and Development (UNCTAD) and Alexander von Humboldt Institute (Colombia).
Her main line of work was focus on the development of sustainable use
criteria and methodologies with the aim of supporting public and privatesectors
in the implementation of sustainable use strategies.

Joan Manuel BARRENA CHÁVEZ
Master Degree in Public Policy of International Trade by Kyung Hee University
of South Korea, Business Administration Bachelor at Universidad del Pacífico
of Perú. He is specialist in international trade promotion from the public sector
and he has developed expertise in dealing with projects supported by international
cooperation in the design and management fields.
He is working at Perúbiodiverso Project (PBD) which is an alliance among Swiss
Cooperation – SECO and German cooperation – GIZ with the Ministry of Foreign
Trade and Tourism as main partner. The project promotes Biotrade. He has been
in charge of the Strategic Regional Export Plans in the Ministry of Foreign Trade
and Tourism.

Katie BECKETT
Katie graduated from Newcastle University in 2007 with a First Class Honours
Degree in Environmental Biology and several awards for her achievements in plant
science. Alongside her studies, Katie undertook an expedition to the southern
rainforests of Cameroon to map and record cultural and resource-based reliance
on the forest by indigenous groups. She joined PhytoTrade Africa as Research
Associate in 2008 focusing on research and development activities along the supply
of natural products from Southern Africa, including plant chemistry, regulatory
procedures, Intellectual Property issues and market trends. She sits on the membership
committee for the UEBT and has co-authored several publications on topics focused
around natural plant products from Africa including cosmetic and food ingredients.

Jaime CARDENAS PEREZ
Industrial Mechanical Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru
and MSc from Mississippi State University.
Senior executive with strong technical
background and extensive experience specializing in international markets. Expert
in the design and development
of market penetration strategies and activities to promote and sell products,
services, projects of investment and tourism. He also has experience and knowledge
of biotrade as an alternative of Sustainable Development.
He also teaches courses
in International Business, Management, Sustainable Development and BioTrade
at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and
at the University of Applied Sciences.
He currently works as Manager of the “BioComercio Andino" GEF-CAF
Project from Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

Craig CASTRO
Craig Castro is the Programme Advisor for Early Recovery in UNDP Burundi, where
he oversees project implementation in areas of socio-economic reintegration of
populations affected by the conflict, tourism, enterprise development, sustainable
land management and biodiversity.
He has a thorough experience in developing
projects in ten different countries in Africa for the past 20 years. Prior to
joining UNDP Burundi, he worked with Oxfam Great Britain in Southern Africa providing
advisory services to six countries of the region.
Craig holds a Masters of Science from the Department of Sociology/Rural Sociology
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA and a PhD in Development Education.
His PhD was based on an ethnographic study on how multi disciplinary learning,
and the indigenous knowledge systems of Mossi farmers on soil fertility management
and ethno veterinary practices of Fulani pastoralists in Burkina Faso.

Maria Helena CENDALES
Maria Helena Cendales is a biologist with master’s studies in forestry.
Since 2001 she has worked on topics related to biotrade, at Alexander von Humboldt
Institute
of Colombia, FAO (Nicaragua and Chile), Biotrade Colombia Fund and, lately,
to the General Secretariat of the Andean Community as part of the Andes-Amazon
Biodiversity
Regional Programme (BioCAN).

Braulio DIAS
Dr. Dias has over three decades of experience in biodiversity science and policy
and its implementation at national and international levels. He brings a unique
combination of scientific training and extensive experience in negotiation.
Dr. Dias joins the Convention on Biological Diversity as Executive Secretary
in 2012. Before joining the Secretariat, he was Secretary of Biodiversity and
Forests at the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment since September 2010. Previously,
he was Director for Biodiversity Conservation since 1999, overseeing national
biodiversity and forest programs directly implemented by the Ministry of the
Environment and the national programs implemented by institutes subordinate to
the Ministry.
He obtained a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasilia and
went on to obtain his PhD in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh in 1981.

Hans-Peter EGLER
Hans-Peter Egler, since 2001 Head Trade Promotion within the Economic Cooperation
and Development Division at SECO, is responsible for trade-related technical
cooperation, including environmental and social standards.
From 1999 to 2000, he held the position of Deputy Head of SECO's Trade Promotion
Section. From 1994 to 1998, his main responsibility at SECO concerned the development
of new investment promotion measures and export financing for Latin America,
Asia and Africa. Previously, from 1992 to 1994 he held the position of Deputy
Coordinator at the Swiss Development Cooperation Office (SDC/DEZA) in La Paz,
Bolivia, and from 1990 to 1992 he was responsible within BAWI (Swiss Federal
office for Foreign Economic Affairs) for bilateral trade relations between Switzerland
and Latin America. He started his career 1988 with the introduction of the office
automation at BAWI, after having graduated, in 1987, from the University of Berne
with a Master in political science and business administration.

Eduardo ESCOBEDO
Eduardo Escobedo is an Economic Affairs Officer at the United Nations Conference
on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Prior to joining the United Nations, Eduardo
headed the Latin America and Caribbean Programme at the International Centre
for Trade and Sustainable Development and prior to that was a trade negotiator
for Mexico.
Eduardo holds a B.Sc. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from
the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey and an M.A. in Development Studies from
the University of Geneva. He also holds post-graduate diplomas on international
business administration from the University of Vienna and on Advanced Studies
in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Geneva.

Claude FROMAGEOT
An agronomist trained in Paris and an MBA graduate of HEC, Claude Fromageot began
his career in the Yves Rocher cosmetic group in 1987 as Raw Materials Quality
Manager then moved on to Manager of Manufacturing in 1989 and Production Manager
in Luxembourg in 1991.For 13 years, as Director of Research and Develoment, Claude
Fromageot directed twenty research teams in all disciplines from plant to skin.
Yves Rocher Research has brought not only the discovery of major botanical extracts
and recognized scientific publications to Botanical Beauty, but also agronomic
and botanical research to the world. Since September 2011, Claude Fromageot has
been Director of Sustainable Development for the Yves Rocher Group and the Director
of the Yves Rocher Foundation.
Claude Fromageot is besides that a French industry
representative at the Cosmetology Commission at ANSM (French National Agency
for Medicines Safety). He also plays the violin as the founder of the Polyphile
string quartet.

Giovanni GINATTA
Since April 2011, Mr. Giovanni Ginatta is the National Coordinator for the Biotrade
Program, a project financed by GEF-CAF which promotes sustainable use and trade
of products and services derived from local biodiversity.
Previously, Mr. Ginatta was the Executive Director of Federación Interamericana
Empresarial (FIE); private sector liason for the Universidad Técnica Particular
de Loja; chair of the Fundación Biocon, a local NGO which promotes sustainable
agriculture; and owner of Piedrafilar, an organic mango and horticulture farm
outside of Guayaquil-Ecuador.
Giovanni holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Masters Degree
in Applied Biology and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute
of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia.

Vanessa INGAR
Vanessa Ingar is a specialist on BioTrade of the General Direction of Biological
Diversity at Ministry on Environment of Peru. She has over 12 years experience
in management of sustainable development projects in natural protected areas
and sustainable trade. Since 2007 she has been involved with BioTrade National
Program of Peru implementing activities for its promotion and development.
Ms
Ingar is a Zootechnical Engineer at Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina and
holds a Master Degree in Protected Areas Management from Fundación Interuniversitaria
Fernando Gonzales Bernáldez formed by Universidad Complutense, Autónoma
de Madrid and Alcala de Henares from Spain.

Lorena JARAMILLO
Lorena Jaramillo is an Economic Affairs Officer of the Biodiversity and Climate
Change Section at UNCTAD. She has over 15 years experience in developing and
implementing sustainable development projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Since 2001, she has been involved with BioTrade at the international level with
UNCTAD and in her home country Ecuador. She has also worked at the Climate Change
Training Programme (CC:Train) of UNITAR and conducted trainings in Africa and
Asia. She has written several papers related to sustainable development, value
chain development and sustainable sourcing. Ms. Jaramillo is an Economist, specialized
in Sustainable Development, of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del
Ecuador and holds an MBA from the HEC, Geneva University, Switzerland.

Sigrid KAAG
Sigrid Kaag is currently the Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant Administrator
and Director of the Partnerships Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP).
Since 2007, Ms. Kaag has served as the Regional Director for the Middle East
and North Africa with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in
Amman, Jordan. Prior to this, she served as the Chief of Staff of the
Executive Director and as Deputy Director of Programmes of UNICEF in New York.
She also served as Senior United Nations Adviser in the Office of the Deputy
Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Khartoum, Sudan. She
was the Chief of Donor Relations with the International Organization for Migration
(IOM) during 1998-2004 and Senior Programme Manager with the External Relations
Office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees
in the Near East (UNRWA) in Jerusalem, covering the Occupied Palestinian Territory,
Lebanon, Jordan and the Syria.
Before joining the United Nations system in 1994,
she served her country in its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and as Deputy Head
of Sector in its United
Nations Political Affairs Department in The Hague. Before joining the
Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms Kaag worked for Shell International
Petroleum Company in London.
Ms. Kaag holds a Master of Philosophy
in international relations of the Middle East from Exeter University, and a
master’s degree in international
relations from St. Antony’s College at Oxford University.

Alexander KASTERINE
Alexander Kasterine is Head, Trade and Environment Programme at the International
Trade Centre (UN/WTO) in Geneva. He manages ITC’s trade-related technical
assistance programming in the field of climate change, agri-environment and biodiversity.
Prior to joining ITC in 2005, he worked as an adviser to the EC and the World
Bank on agricultural policies and previously in Mexico carrying out research
in environment and livelihoods. Alex holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental
Economics and an MSc in Environmental Policy from Imperial College, London.

Rik KUTSCH LOJENGA
Rik Kutsch Lojenga is the Executive Director of the Union for Ethical BioTrade
(UEBT) since its creation in 2008. He is charged to reach out to private sector
in both developing and developed countries to promote sourcing of respect of
biodiversity. Prior, Mr. Kutsch Lojenga worked for over a decade with the United
Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), where he worked on biodiversity
and trade, and capacity development of small and medium size enterprises in developing
countries. Mr. Kutsch Lojenga has a Master’s degree in business and environmental
economics.

Gus LE BRETON
Gus Le Breton is Chief Executive Officer of Bio-Innovation Zimbabwe (BIZ), an
innovation hub for new business opportunities around previously underutilized
species. BIZ is a non-profit, membership-based organization. Its members are
companies and NGOs with an interest in developing the commercial potential of
underutilized plants.
Previously, Mr. Le Breton was the Chief Executive Officer
of PhytoTrade Africa, from 2001 to 2010.

Michel MANE
Michel Mane Is the President of MANE Americas. Mane was founded in 1871 and
is now run by the 4th generation still 100% family owned. Mane’s core business
is the manufacturing of aromatic products for the food and cosmetic industries,
in which ingredients extracted from natural sources, are a key preference driver.
Mane’s purpose is twofold: 1- find ways to obtain the transparency needed
to regain control of the existing supply chains when possible, and 2- create
new supply chains for the same ingredients in establishing an all inclusive integrated
business model in which all identified stakeholders agree to comply with principles
promoting the sustainable access to the genetic material and to international
markets and supporting a transparent and equitable share of the benefits generated
along the value chain.

María Julia OLIVA
María Julia Oliva is Senior Adviser on Access and Benefit sharing at the
Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT). In this capacity, Ms. Oliva manages legal
and policy issues in the work of the organization and provides training and technical
support on access and benefit sharing issues to UEBT members and partners. Previously,
she held positions at the International Centre on Trade and Sustainable Development
(ICTSD), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Center for
International Environmental Law (CIEL). She has worked and published extensively
on a range of issues at the interface of trade, intellectual property and sustainability.
Ms. Oliva is a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, and is also
on the Board of Directors of IP-Watch. She holds a law degree from the University
of Mendoza and a Masters of Laws (LL.M) in environmental law, cum laude, from
Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College.

Supachai PANITCHPAKDI
Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi began his professional career at the Bank of Thailand
in 1974, and in 1986 was elected to the Thai Parliament and appointed Deputy
Minister of Finance. In 1988, he was appointed Director and Advisor, and subsequently
President, of the Thai Military Bank. In 1992, Dr. Supachai was appointed Senator,
and that same year he became Deputy Prime Minister, entrusted with oversight
of the country's economic and trade policy-making. In 2001, he was appointed
Visiting Professor at the International Institute for Management Development
in Lausanne. He has published a number of books, including Globalization and
Trade in the New Millennium (2001) and China and WTO: Changing China, Changing
World Trade (2002, co-authored with Mark Clifford).
Dr. Supachai previously served as Director-General of the World Trade Organization
(September 2002 to August 2005). He is currently the Secretary-General of UNCTAD,
on his second four-year term.

Ana Karina QUINTERO
Administrator and Environmental Manager, specialized in environmental assessment
projects, with a strong background in green markets, sustainable tourism and
biotrade issues.
She has worked since 2005 in the office of green markets of the
Ministry of Environment of Colombia and later in the Development Division Sector
of that
Ministry. She was manager of the sustainability services corporation of the
Colombian NGO Fundación Natura, and currently works in the Forestry
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Office of the Ministry to lead the National
Sustainable Biotrade program.

Vania RUDGE
Vânia Vieira Cunha Rudge is a lawyer, with a Master´s degree in Agronomy – Energy
in Agriculture, a specialization in Environmental Law and an MBA in Strategic
Business Management. She has been working in the legal and sustainability divisions
within the botanical extract industry for almost 10 years.
Ms. Rudge also has
vast experience in non-governmental organization management, working on the development
and execution of social and environmental projects. She has focused on access
and benefit sharing along the career, following discussions at the national level
in Brazil and in international forums related to Convention on Biological Diversity.

Siti RUHANAWATI
Siti Ruhanawati (Ana) currently works for UNCTAD on the Bio Trade Impact Assessment
System (BTIAS) and has been the field manager for UNDP’s pilot project
in Aceh Selatan, Indonesia “Gender-Responsive Approach to Reintegration
and Peace Stabilization,” which was jointly implemented with UNCTAD.
The
pilot project aimed to improve gender-responsive reintegration, focusing on conflict-sensitive
development planning, economic support to conflict affected women through nutmeg
value chain development (using BioTrade) as well as social, psychosocial and
legal support. Before that, Ana worked with several other development programs
for UNDP such as the Aceh Partnership for Economic Development Program (APED)
and the Strengthening Sustainable Peace and Development in Aceh (SSPDA). Ana
has also worked for the World Bank as a researcher for a Gender study on National
Community Empowerment and with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)
on the Support to Conflict Affected Communities in Aceh Project.

Daniel SABARA
Corporate Director of BERACA´s Health & Personal Care Division and
member of the 3rd generation of the founder family, Daniel Sabará has
a graduation degree in Business Administration & Marketing and a Master in
Capital Market.
Sabará is responsible for the BERACA ´s Biodiversity Enhancement
Program®, where for the last years he has helped the company to accomplish
projects with tangible impacts, based on strengthening the value chain of vegetable
materials from the Brazilian Biodiversity and the support to preservation of
natural resources, increasing income and quality of life of local communities
and supplying high quality products to international markets.

John E. SCANLON
John Scanlon has had a unique range of experience with environment and sustainable
development policy, law, institutions and governance at the international, national,
sub-national and local level. His work experience has been gained in the private
sector, in government, with the United Nations and with international organizations,
as a leader, manager, professional adviser and legal practitioner, as well as
through senior voluntary positions with the non government sector.
John joined the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of
Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) as Secretary-General in May, 2010. He holds a
Bachelor of Laws, a Master of Laws (Environmental) and is an accredited mediator.
In 2011 John was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for his service
to environmental law nationally and internationally.

Nik Sekhran is the Head and Principal Technical Adviser at United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/Ecosystems and Biodiversity.

Sergio TALOCCHI
Sergio Talocchi is the Rural Communities Relationship Manager at Natura Cosmetics.
In this capacity, he manages the links with communities providing raw material from biodiversity, as well as access to genetic resources and traditional knowledge. Mr. Talocchi leads a team of eight people working in all regions of Brazil and Latin America. His responsibilities include the development of internal policies for sustainable use of biodiversity, the negotiation of access and benefit sharing agreements, and the structure of supply chains involving local communities. Mr. Talocchi is an economist, with an MS in Ecological Economics.

Alejandra TORRES
Mrs. Torres advanced in undergraduate studies in international relations and
business administration at the University of Pennsylvania and a she has a Master
in Latin American Studies at the University of California.
Alejandra Torres Dromgold has worked in the private sector in supporting the
establishment and strengthening of family businesses and the financial sector.
She also worked closely in the field of sustainable construction and is founder
of the Sustainable Construction Council.
She served also as consultant to the World Bank where she was dedicated to the
design, monitoring and evaluation of projects funded by the Global Environment
Facility (GEF) and to reverse the loss of biodiversity and promote sustainable
development.
Also she supported the development of projects such as silvopastoral systems
Integrated Ecosystem Management (Colombia, Costa Rica and Nicaragua), Conservation
and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in the Colombian Andes (Colombia), the National
Protected Areas Fund (Colombia); Park Canaima national (Venezuela) and Multicultural
Corridor Munchique Click (Colombia); Extension Indian Reservation Forest Matavén
(Colombia) and Biosphere Reserve in the Caribbean (Colombia).

Guillermo VALLES
Ambassador Guillermo Valles is a career diplomat with over 35 years of professional
experience. He has served in several bilateral and multilateral diplomatic missions
in Latin American, European, Asian and U.N. posts. He held several relevant political
positions including that of Deputy Foreign Minister of Uruguay. He graduated
from the School of Law of the Universidad de la República in Uruguay with
the title of Doctor in Diplomacy and has received several decorations from governments
and NGO´s.
Mr. Valles is currently the Director for the Division on International
Trade in Goods and Services and Commodities Division in UNCTAD.

David VIVAS
Mr. Vivas is Founding Member of ANAMIKA, a network that focuses on innovation
and trade policy. He is an expert with more than 16 years of experience on legal
and economic issues. Specific areas of expertise include intellectual property,
biodiversity and traditional knowledge, fisheries subsidies, health policy, trade
in services, and climate change.
He has worked as consultant for various international
and national organizations and institutions including WTO, WHO, UNCTAD, European
Patent Office, GIZ, South Centre, AITIC, ACP Group of countries, QUNO, Rockefeller
Foundation, Saana Consulting, Andean Finance corporation, Ministry of Science
and Technology of Venezuela and Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. He was
Senior Economic Affairs Officer, Trade Negotiations and Commercial Diplomacy
Branch at UNCTAD.
Deputy Programmes Director at ICTSD, Senior Attorney at the
Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), Attaché for Legal Affairs
at the Mission of Venezuela to the WTO and Staff Attorney at the Venezuelan Institute
of Foreign Trade. He has a legal and managerial background. He has a J.D. at
the Universidad de Católica Andres Bello, Venezuela, a L.L.M. at Georgetown
University in the United States and Master degree on Transnational Business at
Universidad Externado, Colombia. He has widely published on intellectual property,
trade in services, public health and biodiversity issues.

Jaime WEBBE
Jaime Webbe has worked on sustainable development for over a decade through positions at the World Bank and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD).
With a particular focus on sustainable land management and the links between climate change and biodiversity she led the SCBD's work on synergies among the Rio Conventions.
Recently she began working as a consultant, continuing with the SCBD as well as working for UNDP, SPREP and IISD.
