Ecuador
is recognized as a global powerhouse in terms of biodiversity and
natural resources. However, poverty and the lack of sustainable
practices have accelerated the mismanagement of the resources.
With
support from BTFP, the
BioTrade Programme in
Ecuador in joint collaboration with Ecociencia is
supporting the value chain of Natural Ingredients for Cosmetics
and Pharmaceutics with the following objective:
Facilitate and increase
sustainable trade in products derived from biodiversity within the
sector of Natural Ingredients for Cosmetics and Pharmaceutical
(NICP). In the future, Ecuador will be positioned as a reliable supplier
of natural ingredients derived from the country’s biodiversity,
delivered through sustainable supply chains, organised around networks
of medium and small enterprises that include local communities as direct
or indirect beneficiaries, complying with international quality
standards and regulations.
